Become an Owlet!

New Moon

Owlets are junior friends of The Barn Owl Trust. Becoming an owlet encourages children and young people to take an active interest in the world around them. The children of today are the adults of tomorrow. Becoming an Owlet friend enables young people to develop a greater knowledge and understanding of the Barn Owl and its environment.

The Barn Owl is a symbol of our relationship with the countryside; the decline of this beautiful bird reflects our attitude towards the environment. No species can prosper in isolation - not even human beings. All things are connected and if we lived in balance with nature then Barn Owls, and so much other wildlife could thrive.

Restoring the balance

At the Barn Owl Trust we aim to ‘Restore the balance' by committing to conserve the Barn Owl and its environment. We've already achieved a tremendous amount thanks to a small team of hard-working staff and dedicated volunteers, and there is still so much more to do!

Becoming a junior friend of the Barn Owl Trust you will be helping us conserve this beautiful bird in the wild. For as little as 28p per week you can help us to continue our valuable work and ensure that Barn Owls are a sight to behold for generations to come.

As well as receiving the owlet pack, you will have the chance to actively contribute your ideas, pictures, stories and poems. We are always keen to hear from our junior friends and look forward to putting your contributions on our website and in future editions of ‘The Flyer', our newsletter especially designed for Owlets. Our website ‘Info for kids' pages are for you, so tell us what you would like to see more of and we will do our best to listen!

Owlets receive a pack which includes:

  • ID badge
  • Barn Owl mobile
  • Recycled pen and pencil
  • Notepad
  • Bookmark
  • Barn Owl pin badge
  • Full colour A3 poster
  • The ‘Flyer' our children's leaflet
  • A copy of our magazine ‘Feedback' twice a year
  • A colouring-in sheet

The Owlet pack also contains further information about Barn Owls and the Trust.

We do not have a visitor centre as our sanctuary is a place of peace and refuge for the owls and disturbance is kept to an absolute minimum. It is on private land with no public access. However, we are always looking for volunteers to help with various indoor and outdoor tasks so if you live close by and have an adult who would be willing to come along with you then why not give us a ring.

The Barn Owl Trust is dedicated to conservation & education and does not operate a visitor centre.
